Details of Chimpanzee Tracks in Gombe – 5 Days Tour
No other park in Africa can offer such a great experience with chimpanzees. With the possible exception of Mahale Mountains National Park, Gombe National Park offers one of the greatest opportunities to experience chimpanzees as the main attraction of the park. However, there are many other primates and mammals in the park as well.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Dar Es Salaam and transferred to Julius Nyere Airport where you will take a flight to Kigoma.
Upon arrival you will be transferred to your accommodation where you will enjoy a delicious meal before taking a short tour of Kigoma and nearby Ujiji to get a glimpse of Tanzanian life. As tourism is so rare in this area you will get a glimpse of authentic daily life.
After breakfast you will make your way to the nearby village of Sigunga to take a boat to Mahale Mountains National Park. It is a peaceful drive into the park and you will feel like you have discovered the true heart of Africa as you leave civilisation behind.
After lunch at your lodge you will have the afternoon at leisure to enjoy the peace and quiet, relax by the pool or go on a guided forest walk.
It’s time for the big event!
After an early breakfast, you’ll attend a briefing and then head into the jungle, home of the chimpanzees in the Mahale Mountains National Park. While it’s not a particularly strenuous hike, you’ll work up a sweat as you trudge through the forest in search of the chimpanzees that call the forest their home.
As these are wild animals not used to the forest, you won’t get too close to them, but you’ll have plenty of opportunity to watch our closest living relatives play in the treetops, feed on the forest floor, and go about their lives.
After your hike, you’ll return to your lodge to shower and relax.
This morning, you’ll return to the forest for one last chance to observe and interact with the chimpanzees of Mahale. This trek is shorter than the previous one as you need to be back at camp before lunch to check out and board the boat back to Kigoma.
After arriving in Kigoma you have the afternoon to relax on the shores of Lake Tanganyika.
Today you return to reality as you say goodbye to the wilderness of southern Tanzania and fly back to Dar Es Salaam.
